Annual Maximums
Insurance plans usually set a maximum to protect them from catastrophic costs. The limit varies depending on companies as well as the kind of dental plan you chose. If for example your annual maximum is $1000, this means that your insurance will cover you until what they spent on your services reaches $1000. If you go higher than this, you will have to shoulder all of the cost. If your teeth is generally healthy, you can take advantage of the high limit by using it on preventive care services. This should ensure that your teeth stays strong and healthy. Plus you’re not wasting the money you spend on getting a dental insurance.

Premiums
Premiums are what you pay for every month to keep your dental policy. If you don’t need much treatment or your coverage period is running out, use your insurance at least for check ups. You will still need to pay your premiums if you want to keep your coverage. So why not put it to good use?

Deductibles
Similar to health insurance plans, some plans have a deductible which means this is the amount that you need to reach by paying out of pocket for the services, before your insurer will start covering you. Some plans like a PPO have deductibles. But usually if you choose a Dental HMO type of plan, there is no deductible to reach.A typical dental plan deductible is around $500. At the end of every coverage year, you will lose the amount that was gathered towards your deductible. Even if you decide to renew your plan, your deductible is reset to 0.

Inflation
If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s the fact that dental fees increase every year.. The cost of materials, medication and equipment always goes higher. One can never say that they’ll just wait until dental fees are reduced in order to get the treatment that’s necessary. In fact, it will cost a lot more if you wait.

Use your dental benefits
It will be a big waste if you pay for a policy monthly or annually only to let it sit there and wait for dental emergencies. Use it for check ups, cleaning or filling. At least you can detect problems early on and treat it before the damage and the cost escalates.
