Through modern dentistry, a patient’s dental experience is a better one. Patients can now receive dental services with more ease, more comfort and less pain. Plus they are done faster. Here are some technology that show developments in dentistry:

Computers – computers are becoming an essential part of everything we do. It is also becoming an important tool among dentists. It makes work a lot easier and allows their staff to be more efficient. Keeping records, retrieving them is a lot easier with computers. Now, your dentist can check on your files from anywhere, anytime. Your dentist can also easily add images from the intra oral camera to your file.

Intra oral cameras – With the use of an intra-oral camera, your dentist can see what is inside your mouth. This allows him to give an accurate diagnosis and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan. The camera is attached to a monitor where patients can also see what your dentist is seeing. So when your dentist talks about your dental condition, you get a clear picture and you’ll understand why the recommended treatments are necessary.

Air abrasion – this is a new way of removing particles from a decayed tooth. This method doesn’t use a drill but instead blows air steam. The steam contains aluminum oxide. When it is blasted on the teeth, particles are removed from the teeth and rids the teeth of decay. Air abrasion  is also used to clean stains and dirt on teeth ;  used in preparation for  cosmetic surgery, bonding procedures and also fixes chipped or worn out teeth.   The advantages of air abrasion over drilling is that it doesn’t cause damage to adjacent teeth and it doesn’t need anesthesia. However it cannot be used for teeth with deep cavities. And patients cannot rule out pain.Since it’s abrasive, it may cause sensitivity.

Lasers – lasers produce a powerful beam of light that when it comes in contact with your tissue, it removes some of them. These are some of the uses of lasers in dentistry: reduce the gums that cover a growing wisdom tooth, minimize the discomfort of having canker sores, biopsy procedures, treat gum disease or gum problems, treat infections in root canals, aid in tooth whitening treatments among others.

Digital X-rays – Advancement in technology has given birth to digitized x-rays. This equipment allows the dentist to see the result right away. No need to wait for dark room processing. Plus it’s safer because of less radiation exposure.

CD ROM – a lot of useful information can be stored in a CD ROM. Through this, patients can be educated about dental facts concerning their dental health. It can also store instructions and self-help videos that patients can take home with them.
